BACKGROUND
International Islamic University Malaysia features a solid convention of volunteerism serving the encompassing community. It corresponds to the University’s theme of the Garden of Knowledge and Virtue, in which knowledge is channeled into acts for the benefit of mankind. Stingless Bee Smart Farming System is one of the sustainable projects under the provision of International Islamic University Malaysia.
Kelulut, or stingless bee honey, has grown in popularity after the Malaysian Agricultural Research and Development Institute (MARDI) designated it as a superfood in 2016 due to its high vitamin and antioxidant content. Nonetheless, experts are of the opinion that honey gathering and extraction, whether in the wild or on farms, must always be done in a sustainable manner so as to ensure bee populations.
Stingless Bee Smart Farming System (FG 31) has its own main objective of incorporating smart manufacturing and IR 4.0 elements holistically improve the current method and technology in setting up, maintaining, and safeguarding the beehive, as well as to employ smart system to extract honey to contribute towards premium quality honey from local superfood with concept of circular economy.z
