
BACKGROUND
The Short Story Writing Competition is a sub-event organized online from 10 December 2021 until 13 February 2022 in conjunction with UNESCO World Futures Day Celebration 2021, organized by Sejahtera Centre for Sustainability and Humanity (IIUM) in collaboration with the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) and The Good Society (IIUM), supported by the Malaysian National Commission for UNESCO (NATCOM).
This event serves as a platform that encourages children and young people across the country to share their unique perspectives and analyses on futures through storytelling. It aims to foster one’s creative, imaginative, and critical thinking in creating a future that favours sustainability and well-being.
CONCEPT
The youth of today are the hope of our future. The persistent challenge remains that whether Malaysia is heading towards progress and development that are sustainable, in other words, “meeting the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their needs.” It is time for Malaysian youth to share their narratives, visions, and aspirations in imagining possible futures that concern the generation.
