This two-day training programme is to introduce participants to the concept of philosophical inquiry and how it is applied as a method of teaching in which lecturers are trained to create a classroom atmosphere of a community of inquiry where students are encouraged to wonder and ask questions related to concepts that are common, central and contestable.  They will be trained to answer the questions themselves through criticism, analysis and clarification of concepts and language, the importance of reasoning and justification in valid and sound arguments, the importance of evidence, examples and counter-examples and unveiling assumptions. They will be trained to look at things from many perspectives and alternatives before making decision.  As lecturers they will learn how to conduct a philosophical inquiry with dialogues and discussion with their students and employ the Socratic method. The days where a lecturer is a sage on the stage has passed and he or she will learn how to be an effective sage by the side.

At the end of the programme, the participants (lecturers) should be able to:

  1. Understand and appreciate the concepts and principles of Hikmah Pedagogy of philosophical inquiry and the role of questions in inquiry and research.
