About IIUM River of Life

  • The River of Life Public Outreach Programme (ROL-POP) is a government programme to foster partnerships and to improve attitudes and behaviours of target groups to reduce pollution in the Klang River, Malaysia. The objective is to generate evidential improvement in attitudes and behaviours of target groups within the Project Area towards river care and preservation in order to improve water quality and reduce pollution within the project area.

  • On 10th October 2018 Kulliyyah of Engineering partnered with Department of Drainage and Irrigation Malaysia or Jabatan Perairan & Saliran (JPS) through Asia Pacific Environmental Consultant Sdn Bhd (ASPEC) organised a ROL-POP event in IIUM. The event aimed to create awareness among IIUM community to love, appreciate and protect the Sungai Pusu river that is part of the ROL- Public Outreach Programme phase 5 river coverage. Hundred (100) participants from staff and students joined the IIUM ROL-POP with about 300 attended the overall function. 

  • IIUM River of Life Project can be a medium for community, especially students, to obtain learning experiences through various projects, activities and community services.

  • River of Life Project could also be a platform to connect and engage with IIUM neighboring communities such as schools, Orang Asli and other Institution of Higher Learning. Indirectly, the project will also strengthen IIUM’s collaboration with both government bodies and private sectors, through the involvements from Jabatan Pengairan dan Saliran, Lembaga Urus Air Selangor and Asia Pacific Environmental Consultant.
